Thunder Mountain Trail, Red Canyon, Utah 10/14/03

The Thunder Mountain Trail has to be one of the most beautiful trails in North America. It is in Red Canyon, just west of Bryce Canyon. It begins with a gradual ascent, consisting of a series of steep ascents and descents through the red rock. It tops off at the overlook at White Point, and then does a wonderful singletrack descent through the hoodoos (sculpted rock formations). The trail is only 8 miles long, but it took us four hours. This is because we could not ride more than a couple of hundred feet at a time without stopping to admire the view and take pictures.
